Prepping a headstone for repairs 🧼💦🪦

See that line? That’s not just a stain, that’s the old ground level. This tablet had slowly sunk over time, and years of soil sitting against it left that mark behind. When a stone drops below grade like this, it holds moisture longer, gets more biological growth, and the lettering starts to disappear faster. Before we reset it back into its keyway base, we cleaned off all that built up soil and staining using Endurance Monument Cleaner so we were starting with a clean surface. Clean it first, then reset it 🖤

The Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries (OCHC) has awarded $62,500 in grants to 14 historic cemetery projects across the state, including Deschutes County.

Someone told me this week that I should “leave the dead alone.” But when I see flowers left on a child’s grave, I’m reminded why I do this work. Every headstone represents someone who was loved and whose life mattered. We are all made in God’s image and worthy of being remembered. I’ll keep caring for these memorials for as long as I can, helping preserve their names and stories for the families who visit today and for future generations 🖤
