Tick season is here and it's really important to protect your family from tick bites and the nasty diseases they carry. If your home is near a wooded area, Wisconsin Department of Health Services has these tips for creating safer, "tick-free" zones:
✅Clear tall grass, brush, and leaf litter from the yard.
✅Use wood chips or gravel as a barrier between lawns and wooded areas, and around patios and play equipment. Minimum 3 feet wide is recommended.
✅Mow the lawn often. Remove cut grass and leaves.
✅Keep tables and play equipment away from woods, shrubs, and tall grass, in a sunny location if possible.
✅Don’t feed deer. They often carry ticks into the yard. Fence the yard if possible to keep deer out.
✅Remove woodpiles or stack wood neatly in a dry area away from the house. This reduces rodents, which can bring ticks into the yard and can spread diseases to the ticks.
