TODAY'S DISINFECTANT SPOTLIGHT: ODOBAN
WHAT IS ODOBAN?
OdoBan is a quaternary ammonium disinfectant, often called a "quat" disinfectant. Its active ingredient is Alkyl Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride, which is designed to kill bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms on hard surfaces. Unlike bleach-based disinfectants, it disinfects without being highly corrosive or damaging to most household surfaces.
HOW DOES IT DISINFECT?
Quaternary ammonium disinfectants work by attacking the protective outer membrane of bacteria and viruses. Once that membrane is disrupted, the microorganism can no longer survive. This makes OdoBan effective against a broad range of germs when used according to the label directions.
WHY I CHOOSE ODOBAN OVER OTHER DISINFECTANTS
• It is a true EPA-registered disinfectant.
• It has a neutral pH, making it much gentler on surfaces than many bleach-based products.
• It can be used on a wide variety of household surfaces without the damage risks associated with harsher disinfectants.
• It leaves behind a fresh scent instead of the strong chemical smell many people associate with disinfecting.
• When diluted and used properly, it is a practical choice for homes with pets and children because it does not contain bleach and is less likely to cause surface damage than many traditional disinfectants.
Over the years, I have tested OdoBan against other disinfectants using petri dish testing, and time after time OdoBan performed the best in my own testing. While every disinfectant should be used according to its label directions and required dwell times, OdoBan has consistently given me the best combination of disinfecting power, surface safety, and ease of use.
If I could only keep one disinfectant in my cleaning caddy, it would be OdoBan. It disinfects effectively, is safe on most household surfaces when used properly, smells better than bleach, and allows me to disinfect without worrying about damaging my clients' homes. For a professional cleaner, that's hard to beat.
