Our technician snapped a great shot of a drain field install today! 🌱🪏

Here is a breakdown:

•Wastewater Collection: All water from your house's drains and toilets flows through a main drainage pipe into a buried, watertight septic tank.

•Separation in the Tank: Inside the septic tank, the wastewater naturally separates into three layers based on density:

-Scum: Lighter materials like fats, oils, and grease float to the top.
-Sludge: Heavier solid waste sinks to the bottom.
Effluent: The middle layer consists of partially treated -liquid wastewater.

Regular maintenance and periodic pumping of the septic tank to remove built-up sludge and scum, is essential for the system to operate effectively and prevent problems. 👍🏼✅

Our technician was able to capture this great photo of the inside look of a septic pump tank! 😄

•The black circular structure is a ‘riser’ or the top of the pump tank, providing easy access for maintenance.

•The white PVC pipe are discharge lines

•The coiled black cable is typical of electrical wiring for a submersible pump or an alarm float. Leaving extra cable coiled aka “service loop” and allows for the pump or sensors to be easily pulled up to the surface for repair without disconnecting the main power source.

Maintenance:🚽🚛👍🏼

✅Annual Visual Inspection: Open the riser lid once a year to check for cracks, gaps, or signs of groundwater leaking in. Ensure the lid is always tightly secured with screws to prevent safety hazards.

✅Filter Cleaning: If your system has an effluent filter pull it out and spray it clean with a garden hose every 6 to 12 months. A clogged filter is a common cause of slow drains or backups.

✅Pumping Schedule: Have the entire septic tank professionally pumped every 3 to 5 years, depending on household size and usage.

Shown below is a septic system alarm/ control panel on a customer home. 🚨

•The gray box is the control/alarm panel.

•The red light on top activates when the water level inside the septic pump tank gets too high.

•Inside the tank are floats that monitor the water levels.

•If the pump fails or the tank fills too much, the alarm light (and usually a buzzer within the box) alerts the homeowner.

Why is it important?

-It is basically the “check engine light” for your septic tank system. 👍🏼

Wondering what this fancy device does for your home?

•A riser is a vertical pipe (plastic or concrete) that connects the top of the septic tank to the surface of the ground.

•What is the riser lid? ☔️
The riser lid is the secure cap that seals the top of the pipe at ground level. It keeps:

-Rainwater out
-Debris out
-Odors locked in
-Children and pets safe

•Why are they important?

-✅ No digging required for pumping
-✅ Faster, cleaner maintenance visits
-✅ Encourages regular service
-✅ Improves safety

•Homes without risers often require digging 6-24 inches every time the tank is pumped -adding time and costs!

Strong systems start underground 💪🏼🌎

A properly built drainfield is what keeps a septic system working efficiently year after year. It evenly distributes wastewater into the soil, allowing nature to do its job and safely filter it before it reaches groundwater. 💦

Fun Fact: The size of a drainfield isn’t random - it’s carefully calculated based on soil type and household water usage. That’s why every install should be customized, not one-size-fits-all. 💡

When it’s done right, you’ll never have to think about
it - and that’s the goal. ✅
