Matthew 5.17-19. THE COMMON SENSE OF JESUS LAW
Two years ago at the middle of the pandemic the Pope allowed virtual masses and virtual communion. At that time while I was on duty at the crises hotline I received many calls from Christians longing to have a confession because at that time it was on hold. I don’t know if a person can confess virtually. But I followed the Bible. It doesn’t say in the Bible that you have to go to church to confess or even to confess to a priest. As a Catholic it is my practice to confess to a pastor but never in time of pandemic. However, there are many scriptures in the Bible that you can confess to one another. In the book of James 5:16, it says, “Therefore confess your sins to one another”. Did I break the Commandments?
In our Gospel today Jesus says, I rephrase, “Whoever brakes the commandments…will be called least in the kingdom of heaven and whoever obeys will be called greatest.” Jesus also said that he came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. What is the purpose of the law? The first purpose of the law is to reveal the holiness of God, second to have rules and means, and third to reveal our sins. Many of us tried to change the law to fit our needs. In Plainfield IL about 20 miles from here, where I live you’ll see many little worship place having their own Christian Belief. On many cases they were looking for an unsatisfied Catholics. I attended some of this worship place and you will see Catholics who hate our faith because of the scandal about Priests who violated small boys and hiding under the protection of their diocese. They hide some of these priests so they will not go to jail. What this priest did is a violation of Jesus Law. I am pretty sure such scandals are happening also to pastors of other denomination. But the Catholic Church is an easy target because of the enormity of our congregation.
Following the law of God is a complete obedience of the Ten Commandments.
