🍎📚 Throwback Thursday: One More Week of Summer... ☀️🚲

Next week, backpacks will be packed, alarm clocks will be set, and another school year will begin. Before summer officially comes to an end, let's take a trip down memory lane.

For many of us who grew up around Pittsboro, summer wasn't planned on a calendar, it just happened.

⚾ Long evenings at the ballpark watching Pittsboro Little League, where every game felt like a big deal.

🎡 Fair week at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds, hoping to ride "just one more time," cheering on friends in 4-H, and eating way too much fair food.

🥤 Walking (or riding your bike) to Crystal Flash with just enough change in your pocket for a soda, candy bar, or your favorite treat.

🍕 Getting a pizza from Pittsboro Pizza and renting a VHS from the movie rental place next to the Gingham Goose.

🍔 Meeting friends at Frank & Mary's, where everyone seemed to know everyone.

🚴 Riding bikes down country roads until the streetlights—or your parents—told you it was time to come home.

🌽 Bonfires and parties out in a Pittsboro field, making memories you'll never forget.

🚗 Late-night drives on back roads with the windows down, music turned up, and nowhere in particular to go.

🏊 Spending entire afternoons swimming at a friend's house until your fingers were wrinkled and your parents wondered where you disappeared to.

While some things have changed over the years, the best part of summer hasn't—the memories we make with family, friends, and neighbors. Now it's a new generation creating their own Pittsboro summer stories, and before we know it, they'll be the ones sharing them years from now.

What was your favorite Pittsboro summer memory growing up? I'd love to hear your stories! Bonus points if you have an old photo to share in the comments. ❤️

Throwback Thursday: Cheerleaders through the years

The Hendricks County Fair has something for everyone! 🎡🐄🌽 Some come for the animals, the amazing 4-H projects, rides, and the fair food... but for some of us, it's also all about the cheer competition! 📣

We're proud to cheer on the talented athletes from Pittsboro as they come together to showcase their hard work, school spirit, and incredible skills while competing against teams from across Hendricks County. Please feel free to post any cheer competition photos from this year’s fair! 💙📣

Throwback Thursday: 4-H

For generations, 4-H has been a cornerstone of summer in Pittsboro and throughout Hendricks County. Long before today's modern equipment and technology, local youth were learning responsibility, leadership, and hard work by caring for livestock, growing crops, and serving their communities.

A look back at the history of Pittsboro reminds us just how deeply agriculture is woven into our roots. In the 1930s and 1940s, many family farms were around 200 acres and were largely self-sufficient. A typical farm might have included 4 milk cows, a few sows and pigs, a beef cow, sheep, chickens, and produce, while fields produced corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa to feed both the family and livestock. Milk was cooled in cans and picked up daily to be sold, and by 1945, electricity had reached farms throughout Middle Township, forever changing life on the farm.

Agriculture has certainly evolved over the years, but the values of hard work, dedication, and community remain the same—and those are the very values that 4-H continues to instill in young people today.

As another fair season approaches, let's celebrate the generations of Hendricks County families who have proudly shown animals, exhibited projects, volunteered, and made lifelong memories through 4-H. Please post any photos of your family involved in 4-H! We love to see them.

🎡 The Hendricks County 4-H Fair runs July 19–25!

From Mrs. Duffy’s daughter, Kathie,

Some of you might remember my mom, Kathleen Duffy, who was a school nurse for several years. She was 96 years old and she lived a long colorful life.

We’d love to hear your memories of Mrs. Duffy, Pittsboro School Nurse.

Kathleen May Duffy of Mooresville, Indiana, passed away on July 10th. She was born on May 7, 1930, to the late Florence and Joseph Kagey. She was married to John Duffy on June 14, 1952. She was employ

Throwback Thursday: Prices in the 1930's

We won't spend too much time wishing we could go back in time... but looking at this 1930 and 1933 Pittsboro price flyer is certainly fascinating! It's amazing to see just how much everyday life has changed over the past 90+ years.

Just for a little perspective:
🚗 The average new car in the early 1930s cost around $600–$700.
🏠 The average home in the United States during the 1930s sold for approximately $3,500–$4,000. While Pittsboro-specific home sale records from that era aren't available online, home prices in Pittsboro would likely have been in a similar range—or even a bit lower given its small-town, rural character during the Great Depression.

Looking at old grocery ads and price lists is a fun reminder of how different life once was. Of course, wages were much lower too, and families faced the challenges of the Great Depression, making even those prices a significant expense.

Still... it's hard not to smile (and sigh) when you see items priced in cents instead of dollars!

Do you have any family stories about shopping in Pittsboro back in the day? We'd love to hear them in the comments!

✨💪🏻Pittsboro Small Business Spotlight: Barbell Fitness Club 💪🏻✨

Barbell Fitness Club has been open for 3 ½ years, but owner, Anastasia Alter, has been coaching fitness for over 15 years! Owning her own gym was always her dream and she is so grateful to be able to share that dream with this community! She knew she wanted to open Barbell to create a gym that was different. She had so many ideas for making fitness fun, challenging and community-driven because exercise is truly better with friends!

At Barbell, they don’t have leaderboards or rank their atheletes. Instead they focus on helping every member become a more well-rounded athlete by developing all 10 physical skills: cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. Those skills are displayed on their walls as a daily reminder of what they are working on TOGETHER! Whether you’re brand new to fitness or have years of experience, there’s always something to improve, and their classes are designed to help you do just that.

Anastasia said her favorite part of the Pittsboro community is without a doubt the people! “Pittsboro has such a welcoming, supportive community, and it’s been incredible to watch complete strangers walk into Barbell and leave as friends. Seeing people encourage each other, celebrate wins together, and genuinely enjoy showing up is exactly what I hoped this gym would become.”

Barbell is for everyone. You don’t have to be “fit enough” before you join—that’s what Barbell is here for. Their goal is to help people build strength, confidence, and friendships while having fun along the way. They believe fitness should improve your life both inside and outside the gym, and they would love for you to be part of our community.

Classes offered:

-Strength and Conditioning
-Circuit
-Progress by Design
-Kickboxing
-Yoga
-Upbeat Barre
