As the temperature begins to rise keep an eye out on your pond for this plant in particular. This is a plant called giant salvinia. Giant salvinia can double in size in 4-10 days. If you have 1 acre of salvinia covering your lake or pond you can expect to have 2 acres of salvinia within a week. Salvinia can blanket your waterways surface, inhibiting access and shading out native vegetation. Salvinia can easily spread from one body of water to another because it tends to cling to objects such as bird legs and boat trailers.
