Southern Slider Setup Could Be One To Watch For Winter 2026-2027 👀

As we continue watching the developing strong El Niño pattern, one of the classic setups we will be monitoring is the potential for southern storm systems tracking from the Southwest/Gulf Coast and lifting toward the Northeast.

A typical El Niño winter pattern can favor an active southern jet stream, which may allow storms to ride along the Gulf Coast before moving northeast — a setup that has produced some memorable winter storms in past seasons.

🌨️ The big questions heading into Winter 2026-2027:

❄️ Will cold air be in place at the right time?
❄️ Can Gulf moisture combine with southern storm systems?
❄️ Could parts of the South, Ohio Valley, Appalachians, and Northeast see more opportunities for winter weather?
