This Saturday, 10/24 at 4pm, we’re back in Tucson with Watershed Management Group to tour Melanie & Nick’s family compound, where an all-gravel backyard became shade, food, flowers and habitat. 🌳

Melanie took her PowerLock cover further than we ever imagined. It saves about 10,000 gallons of water a year. On top of that, she harvests 2,500 gallons of rain off the cover and sends 2,000 gallons of low-chemical backwash to her plants. 💧

We’ll be there to cover the basics of how the cover works. Melanie will show you what’s possible beyond that.

“Watch your kids around water.” Many Valley families remember Phoenix weatherman Dave Munsey signing off with those words. He was a big advocate for pool safety, and that’s him on a PowerLock with three kids.

The PowerLock is an ASTM-certified safety cover. The standard requires a cover to hold 485 lb. With the water at the proper level and every anchor locked down, a PowerLock greatly exceeds it and is strong enough to hold a family.

Not planning to swim until spring? You don't have to keep paying to run, clean and treat a pool nobody is using.

With a PowerLock safety cover, you can hibernate your pool for the winter:

1. Level the water.
2. Balance the chemicals.
3. Secure the cover.
4. Shut off the pump and filter.

That's it. No sunlight reaches the water, so algae has nothing to feed on, and the pool needs no circulation or added chemicals while it sleeps. Come spring, rebalance the water, run the filter for a day or two, and swim.

With a PowerLock safety cover, it lands on the cover instead. Sweep or blow it off, and the water underneath stays clean.

The afternoons still feel like summer. Once the sun goes down, though, cool, dry desert air goes to work on your pool.

Much of the heat a pool loses overnight escapes through evaporation, and in our dry air that happens fast. The heat you paid for drifts off into the night sky, and your heater has to earn it all back by morning. The heater turns back on, and so does the bill.

Monsoon season comes with a lot of pool advice, and not all of it holds up. Let us clear up a few common myths.

Myth: I will cover the pool once a storm is in the forecast.
Reality: Monsoon storms move fast and forecasts are rough at best. By the time you know one is coming, it is often already here. Protection works best when it is already in place.

Myth: A little debris is no big deal.
Reality: Organic material breaks down quickly in warm water and feeds algae. What looks minor tonight can turn into a green pool in a couple of days during peak summer heat.

Myth: You shouldn't put a cover on your pool during monsoon season.
Reality: That's true if you have a cheap bubble cover, which can blow off, sag, and trap debris and water. It is not true with a PowerLock. It anchors down tight, holds debris up on top where you can sweep or blow it off, and the pump moves rainwater off automatically. The PowerLock is a game changer for monsoon protection.

Knowing what is actually true makes storm season a lot easier to handle. When your pool stays protected through the season, you spend less time reacting and more time enjoying it.
