Armed with one of natures most unique and bizarre defensive strategies, the Horned Lizard aka the H***y Toad of the Southwest can deliver a startling and grotesque surprise to an attacking predator. By cutting off circulation back to his own heart, blood is is forced into the ocular sinuses until enough pressure builds up and allows the lizard to shoot a stream of blood out of its eyes up to a distance of 4 feet! This process is known as auto-hemorrhaging and amazingly can be repeated several times in just a few minutes!

The Desert Tortoise may be one of the most elusive reptiles we have in the Sonoran Desert. Spending up to 95% of their lives underground, the desert tortoise is able to survive in regions where ground temperatures may reach over 140 degrees! The desert tortoise also has the unique ability to store moisture in its bladder, allowing it to survive up to an entire year without a a single drop of water! Because of this, it's always important to never handle any tortoise you encounter in the wild, as they've been known to empty their bladder as a defensive strategy leaving the tortoise at an extreme disadvantage during dry periods. Unfortunately desert tortoise populations have declined by as much as 90% in some areas, primarily due to human activity and habitat loss. It was estimated that their were up to 200 tortoises per square mile in the 1950's, that number has dropped to 5-50 in recent years.

This Gopher Snake was lucky to be found by someone who decided to give us a call first! Arizona's largest snake, the Sonoran Gopher Snake is often mistaken for a Rattlesnake due to it's similar pattern and ability to rapidly vibrate its tail, which in dry leaves or scrub, mimics the sound of his venomous cousin. Gopher snakes however, are non-venomous and virtually harmless as they use constriction instead to subdue their prey. If you find a snake on your property please give us a call. We are AZ Game and Fish Licensed and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a Week.

Gila Monster! It's amazing that the venom from these guys has been effective in treating type 2 diabetes! Unlike venomous snakes, Gila monsters deliver venom through glands and grooved teeth in their lower jaw. After biting they clench down for several minutes which allows venom to slowly flow upwards into the wound through capillary action. Despite their name and fearsome reputation, there have been no reported deaths from a Gila monster since the 1930's.

The "Mohave Green" Rattlesnake probably gets the worst reputation out of all our snake species with outrageous stories of these "fierce" reptiles chasing people down to even being the result of a crossbreeding project gone wrong! The truth, however, are that these animals are not more aggressive and only act defensively to protect themselves from us! Mohave Rattlesnakes will never actively chase you nor are they any more defensive than most of our other rattlesnake species. If you have an unwanted snake on your property, please give us a call. Guaranteed affordable and available 24/7
