“Don’t wear fuel.”
It’s a small phrase with a large message behind it.
But arc flash safety starts before PPE.
The priority is to de-energize equipment, follow proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and establish an electrically safe work condition. Arc-rated PPE is an important layer of protection when an arc flash hazard exists—but it should never be treated as permission to work energized.
In this short Safety Minute, Tyndale VP of Technical Scott Margolin looks at reported arc flash incidents and explains why hazard elimination and clothing choices both matter.
