Another ICS success story!
Charles Townsend arrived at Depaul House in May 2014. He had not worked in over 3 years and had been in shelter for over 2 years. His case manager and the Employment Specialist worked closely with him to develop a plan but his untreated mental health symptoms prevented him from getting a job. Six months after moving into the program, the Manager of ICS gained his trust and offered to interview him for an open position on the crew. While Charles had a lot of reservations at first, he thrived once he joined the team. Recognizing that Charles did not like to be interrupted and that he had a hard time with last minute changes, the ICS Manager worked with Charles to ensure that he would succeed. His colleagues reported that he was always punctual and a very hard worker.

Charles became eligible for subsidized housing because he now had income and moved into his own apartment in 2015. Later that year, when another contract was available, Charles was promoted to clean that building on his own. The manager of the site reports that Charles is one of the most diligent workers that she has met. Charles says that ICS has been a “blessing” for him and that working has helped his self-esteem. In 2017, Charles was promoted once again to a lead on a new ICS contract because of the confidence that his manager had in him to meet and exceed client expectations.
