Last week I did a job for Mrs. Thompson of Peoria, whose son was apparently good friends with my dad. What a coincidence!
When I was giving her an estimate, she told me that she’s been living in her house for 50 years come this August and she’s never had her concrete cleaned. Hearing this was a little bit daunting, as I thought 50 years of buildup sounded like a long time. Mrs. Thompson asked me, “will I be able to notice to difference?” To which I assured her it would be a noticeable difference. She accepted my bid and we got the job scheduled.
The job was a routine concrete driveway and sidewalk cleaning where I pretreat the surface using sodium hypochlorite mixed with a commercial surfactant, go over it with a high pressure surface cleaner, rinse it, and then posttreat with the same chemicals. The chemical treatment is so important when cleaning super old, dirty concrete! It eliminates streak marks that would arise from just cleaning with just water and also gives a much better lasting effect. Once you get your driveway cleaned, you won’t need to again for another 2-3 years!
Mrs. Thompson was very impressed with the results and said that her husband, who passed, “had never done power washing himself, but if he saw how good it looks cleaned, he would have done it every year!”
And that is what I love most about my job.
