If you come across a diamondback rattlesnake, be aware, there may be another one in the vicinity. Mating & courting occurs roughly early September through mid-October.
The attached picture is a male diamondback.
During or after mating: Males sometimes evert (partially push out) a hemipen*s. It’s located near the tail base, and can appear as a pinkish or fleshy bulge. Sometimes this happens if the snake was recently courting or mating.
