Dust, it never seems to go away and is a pain to get rid of. But what is dust exactly?
Dust indoors can be made up of a number of things. It can be dead skin cells, hair and dander from humans & pets. It can be fibers from things like clothes, carpets and various upholsteries. It can be from things tracked inside like dirt and pollen. Dust can also contain molds, bacteria, dust mites, microplastics, and insect fragments. Eww, none of this sounds like something you want sitting around your house for long periods of time. However, most of us are super busy and dusting is just another tedious task that we put off or forget to do.
You may be thinking, well other than hiring KDCleans to come keep my house dust free, how can I tackle the dust and where does the dust accumulate? Don’t worry, I will give you tips and tricks on how to make dusting more efficient and easier for you, without hiring us professionals.
I have been cleaning professionally for over 10 years, and I can tell you that dust will accumulate ANYWHERE and EVERYHERE it can. This includes, walls, ceilings, light switches, doors, cabinets, and any lip or ledge it can. The amount of time it can take for dust to accumulate can differ, depending on how many people and animals live in the home.
With every home being different, I start the dusting process the same way. With a duster, my favorite is the Swiffer Duster with the 6ft Super Extendable Handle. It can hold 2 Swiffer dusters 360 and extends to reach most all nooks and crannies without stools or bending over. I start in one room and start with the ceiling, dusting clockwise, making sure to get the corners, vents and fans. I move down the walls, hitting the corners, sturdy shelves, picture frames, doors, and door frames. I then finally hit the base boards with the duster. I consider using the Swiffer as a “pre-dust” or “dry dust.” I knock off and pick up the loose dust making it easier to detail frames, doors, shelves, and Knick knacks.
Of course, the dust that’s left and stirred up in the air will settle, and as amazing as the Swiffer brand is, it doesn’t get everything. That’s why I also always “wet dust” or “detail dust.” These days, I use microfiber cloths and a furniture spray that is great for wood, leather, and vinyl surfaces. It’s my favorite to give dark wood and leather a new life. For other surfaces, I use a smell good, all-purpose cleaner that is also great at getting stains and marks of walls, doors, switches, and baseboards. I go back around with these cleaners, in the same way I did with the Swiffer, clockwise, top to bottom. I use more natural and eco friendly cleaners from a shop club, but if you are looking for equivalents that will be in Walmart and Target. I suggest Enddust and Mrs. Myers (my fave scent is the honeysuckle). I will link all these products in the comments, and you can also find them in my bio along with other fave products.
Tomorrow, I will make a video of me using the products and dusting, for those that are more visual people.
Hope everyone has had a wonderful Tuesday! Don’t stress, you got this!🤗🤗🤗
