Opossum Facts:

1. Tick-eating machines: A single opossum can eat up to 5,000 ticks per season, helping reduce the spread of Lyme disease.(Birds eat 2-3x more)
2. Natural pest control: They also eat cockroaches, rats, and snakes — including venomous ones! Their immunity to many snake venoms makes them excellent neighborhood pest patrol.
3. Marsupials: Female opossums carry their babies in a pouch — a rare trait among North American mammals.

Negative:
1. They smell bad when “playing dead”: During their defense mechanism, they emit a foul odor to mimic the smell of decay.
2. They can carry parasites: While they’re resistant to many diseases, they can still carry fleas, mites, or internal parasites.
3. Will get into attic, crawlspace, screened in porch etc.. damage to home/fecies left behind!
