Twenty-five years.

Some of us remember exactly where we were standing. Others have only known a world shaped by that morning. Both are reasons to stop today and remember.

343 firefighters. 71 law enforcement officers. People who went up the stairs while everyone else came down, because that is what the job asked of them.

At SERVPRO Team Wilson, our crews work alongside first responders on some of the hardest days people experience. We see a small piece of what that job asks, and we are proud to stand with the men and women who answer the call in our communities.

Today we honor the ones who gave everything.

Breakfast and coffee across our locations this morning to close out the summer and thank our teams for the work they put in.

It has been a hot one. Our crews spent it in attics, in crawlspaces, and in buildings where the air had already stopped working. They wore full PPE in triple-digit heat because the job required it. They showed up on the day someone’s home flooded, the day a business could not open, the day a family did not know who else to call.

None of that gets easier because it is 100 degrees outside. It just gets harder, and this team did it anyway.

From Houston to DFW to Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, thank you to every person who carried this summer. People First is not a value we picked at random. It is the reason this whole thing works.

Our teams show up after the fire. The Tuscaloosa Fire Department shows up during it. Our SERVPRO of Tuscaloosa team was grateful for the chance to present a check to the City of Tuscaloosa Fire Department last week.

Proceeds from our annual golf tournament went to the men and women who run toward the calls everyone else runs from. We work alongside first responders often enough to know what the job asks of them.

SERVPRO Team Wilson is looking for a Job File Coordinator to join our team.

This role plays an important part in moving jobs from lead to completion, including:

Monitoring job files and documentation
Working closely with Production teams
Reviewing estimates, scopes, and job documentation
Maintaining accurate work-in-progress information
Ensuring client requirements are met
Auditing files for accuracy and completeness
Coordinating job close-out and invoicing

We're looking for someone highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong administrative and communication skills, exceptional customer service, and the ability to work confidently with digital tools. Experience in restoration, construction, or insurance is a plus.

The exercise Benji suggested on this week’s episode is the uncomfortable one. Add up the salaries of everyone sitting around your leadership table. Divide it down to the hour. Now look at what that meeting produced.

He isn’t anti-meeting. He runs a company with a leadership team and a standing rhythm. His rule is narrower than that: kill the meetings whose only output is another meeting.

Fire damage does not stop when the fire goes out.

Smoke keeps moving through the structure. Soot becomes acidic and starts etching surfaces. Water from firefighting efforts soaks into materials that were already stressed. Every hour matters, which is why our first move after a fire loss is to secure the property, not just clean it.

Our SERVPRO of Birmingham team is on this one now. Board-up, tarping, and stabilization come first. Everything else follows.

Brady says you already had the project. You were already the expert. The long explanation is you seeking validation you didn’t need.

Brady’s line: “I’ve given you this project. I trust you with that project. You’re the expert in the field. Now I just want to be kept up to date on the progress.”

Most leaders never say the trust part out loud. They only ever say the “get to the point” part. And their people are left reading impatience where there was actually confidence.
