πŸ’§This copper roof in Newton, MA had a small leak that was causing big problems inside the home. You can actually see the thin cracks in the copper where water was getting through. With older copper roofing, the green oxidation layer is completely normal, but before we can make a proper repair we need to remove that layer to expose clean copper underneath for soldering. This step is necessary because solder will not adhere to oxidized copper. Once the oxidation is removed, we can solder the cracks and seal the leak correctly instead of covering it with a temporary patch.

A lot of older copper roofs in New England develop issues like this over time, especially around seams and stress points. The key is finding the exact source of the leak and repairing it the right way before water damage spreads further into the house. Copper roof repair takes experience, patience, and attention to detail because every repair needs to bond properly to the existing metal.

πŸ“© If your roof is leaking or you have an older copper roof showing signs of wear, now is the time to get it inspected before the damage gets worse. Send us a message today to schedule a roof inspection or leak evaluation. We help homeowners across the North Shore and the Greater Boston area with copper roof repair, roof leak repair, flashing repair, and residential roofing services.

πŸ’§Roof leaks are not always as straightforward as they look. On this roof in Rockport, MA we tracked down a few possible problem areas that could be letting water inside the home. The first issue we found was damaged cap shingles, so we are starting there, with the most cost effective repair before moving into a larger repair if needed. Sometimes fixing a roof leak is about taking the right steps in the right order instead of jumping straight into a bigger, more expensive roof project.

If the leak continues, the next step would be removing shingles and siding at the wall, installing new ice and water shield and new flashing, and installing new shingles along the wall section. Every roof leak repair is different and diagnosing the source properly can save homeowners thousands.

πŸ“© If you have a roof leak, water stains, or damage after heavy rain, now is the time to get it checked before it turns into a bigger problem. Send us a message today to schedule an inspection or give us a call to talk about your roof repair options. We are happy to help homeowners across Massachusetts protect their homes and stop leaks for good.

🌴 Vacation Highlights- Part 1 🌴

Our family just got home from a vacation to Sanibel Island. We had such a wonderful time spending quality time together and going on fun adventures. We all had the chance to feed a giraffe at the Naples Zoo, and see over 20 manatees swimming in a marina on Captiva Island. We played tennis together and made sandcastles on the beach. The little roofers were so excited to be able to hit golf balls and swim endlessly in the hotel's pools. One morning Mom took our little roofer to Lighthouse Beach to watch the sunrise. We spent 2 different days at the Ding Darling Wildlife Reserve looking for alligators and watching many beautiful birds that we've never seen before. We even took a family bike ride around the island. One of the things that the kids loved best was playing Bingo by the pool in the afternoon. Mom won 3 times and Dad won once! We are still getting used to being home, but are excited for many new adventures this summer!

A proper PVC membrane installation means running the membrane up the wall, which requires removing the siding around it, and reinstalling new siding afterwards. Once that is done, the final step is making sure all the detail work fits back together cleanly. Here we are shaping a corner shingle so that it fits perfectly into place and lines up with the rest of the wall. Getting this angle right takes time and precision, and it is one of the details that separates rushed work from a clean finished job. Most people will never notice it, but it makes a big difference in the final result.

When installing a PVC membrane roof, the membrane needs to run up the wall behind the siding to properly seal the transition. That means the bottom row of siding shingles has to be removed first, then new shingles have to be installed once the membrane is in place. In this clip we are installing the new shingles, making sure everything sits clean and tight over the new system. Every piece needs to line up correctly so the wall and roof work together as one. This is what a flat roof installation actually looks like behind the scenes.

Most people do not realize that when we install a PVC membrane roof, the membrane cannot just stop at the edge of the roof. The lower siding shingles of the house need to be removed so that the new membrane can be run up the adjacent wall to properly seal everything and tie the system together. After the new membrane is installed, we need to install new shingles at the bottom of the adjacent wall.

In order to do that, we need to carefully loosen the bottom row of siding shingles without damaging them. Here we are carefully removing nails from the existing siding so we can loosen the shingle without damaging it. This allows us to lift it just enough to install a new shingle in the row below and properly slide it under the above shingle. This is one of those steps that might seem small, but is critical to doing a flat roof the right way.
