Dear Valued Customers,
I am writing to let you know that Lachance Lessive will be closing operations, with our final day of service (deliveries) scheduled for May 25, 2026.
This has been an incredibly difficult decision. Rather suddenly, the cost of operating a wash-and-fold, pickup and delivery laundry service has increased to a level that is no longer sustainable for a small, independent business run out of my home.
In particular, our region is currently facing significant and well-documented increases in water and sewer costs. Recent public reports indicate that communities served by the South Essex Sewerage District—including Peabody, where we live and operate—are expected to see these costs rise substantially, potentially by several hundred percent in the coming years due to infrastructure upgrades and rising operating expenses.
At the same time, the City of Peabody is navigating broader budget challenges. City leadership has publicly discussed the possibility of exhausting available tax capacity and the potential need for a Proposition 2½ override as municipal costs continue to rise.
Alongside these local factors, we have also felt the impact of rising fuel costs, increased maintenance and repair expenses for my vehicle (which also serves as our family van), and general inflation affecting detergents, equipment, and day-to-day operations.
Because laundry services are heavily dependent on water, energy, and consistent equipment use, these combined increases have made it impossible to continue operating without raising prices to a level that would no longer feel fair or reasonable for our customers.
