🧙‍♂️ The Man Behind the Curtain…

Every group has that person who somehow seems to be involved in everything.

Well… apparently that guy is James Jackson of Sentry Point Development Group, our 41 North BNI Member of the Year! 🏆

James consistently shows up to meetings with a great attitude, a willingness to help, and somehow manages to miss as few meetings as possible — because apparently sleep is optional.

He’s also put in a ton of work outside the weekly meeting, including:

🤝 Regular one-to-ones with fellow members
🎉 Showing up and participating in BNI events
💪 Supporting members and events outside of BNI
🏠 Starting and running our Trades & Home Improvement Sphere, bringing members from across the industry together for a monthly breakfast
📱 Running the 41 North Facebook & Instagram pages
👥 Serving on the Membership Leadership Team for two years running
🚪 Serving as a Co-Visitor Host for a time and helping make visitors feel welcome

And somehow, while all of this is happening, he still has a day job at Sentry Point.

So yeah… there may or may not be a little wizardry happening behind the curtain. 🪄😂

But seriously, congratulations to James on being named Member of the Year. It’s a pretty cool recognition of what BNI is all about — showing up, building relationships, giving first, and helping the people around you succeed.

Well deserved, James. 👏

Before Frank started cutting signs, he spent 15 years building nuclear submarines at General Dynamics to tolerances measured in thousandths of an inch. Under federal security clearance, no less. That's a strange background for a sign shop, but it explains a lot about how we run things.

Every dimensional letter that comes off our CNC machine gets the same standard he learned building subs: it either fits right or it doesn't ship. That's why a boat wrap we install at a marina in Mystic or Stonington is built with marine-grade laminate that shrugs off salt air and UV instead of blistering after one season. It's why a fleet wrap for a contractor running trucks through New London holds its color through a New England winter instead of peeling by spring.

We're not the cheapest option out there, and we won't pretend to be. We're the shop that designs in-house, cuts in-house, and installs with concealed hardware so the finished product looks like it was always supposed to be there. 🧱 This Week’s Featured Presenter: Ryan Dower of Dower Stone

We had a great presentation this week at 41 North BNI from Ryan Dower, part owner of Dower Stone, a local go-to company for all things stone and masonry.

Ryan gave us a great look at the work they do, from stone walkways and patios to walls, hardscaping, masonry, and custom stonework. If it involves stone, there’s a pretty good chance Dower Stone can handle it. 💪

What really stood out is the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into their work. The projects Ryan shared were a great reminder that the right stonework can completely transform an outdoor space.

Big shout-out to Ryan for a great presentation and for representing a local company that takes pride in doing things right.

If you’ve got a masonry or stone project coming up, Dower Stone is definitely a company worth knowing!

Looking back at last Thursday’s meeting, we were excited to officially welcome three more new members to 41 North BNI!

Each new member brings a new business, new connections, and new opportunities to the room—and that’s exactly what makes this group so strong.

We started the year with just 21 members, and the growth since then has been incredible. We’re building a group full of professionals who genuinely want to see each other succeed, and the momentum just keeps building.

A single-family property may have additional income potential, but converting it into a legal multifamily setup requires more than estimating new rent.

In one recent homeowner case study, the projected improvement was approximately $16,000 to $17,000 in additional annual net income.

Before moving forward, owners should evaluate zoning approval, one-time improvement costs, egress and code requirements, utilities, insurance, lawn and snow care, parking, tenant disputes, noise, taxes, and turnover.

We use RentRange software and other analysis tools to compare the projected income with the added costs, responsibilities, and risks. We also look at the opportunity from both property management and real estate sales perspectives.
