Healthy pork? You bet! We are taking deposits on whole and half hogs raised free of soy and GMO products! These guys are hoping to be pastured when they get bigger, but in the meantime they have lots of green alfalfa given to them every day. Butcher dates estimated December, but you'll need to reserve one soon, otherwise they will be making room for the next litter of piglets! We haul the pigs to one of two local butchers. Message me for more details.

My dairy girls get to graze smaller patches in the farmyard that are inconvenient to put the rest of the flock. We are loving our Nigerian Dwarf, Buttercup (left) as a dairy goat!

Yesterday we had a conversation with one of our friends who doesn't understand the value of farm fresh food, or putting the time and money into livestock care. Now, our infant daughter requires goat milk. Originally she was breastfed, but since getting pregnant again, my supply vanished and we no longer have the cheap option for feeding our daughter even if we wished. Looking at the price of Similac formula and estimating how much she would drink in a month, it looks as though one of our two little dairy goats is paying in product the feed cost of the entire flock, plus eleven pigs. That doesn't even take into account all the extra milk, goat meat, pork, and sold piglets. I don't need to mention that our laying hens pay for their own feed bills with ease.

Spring grass is coming up, and I am transitioning the goats from their winter ration of hay onto fresh vegetation. Here is this year's goat tummy prep. They are currently running back and forth across the yard in sheer joy.

My goats are 100% grass fed with no grain supplements, so I have a hay basket in front of the milk stand for them to nibble on during milking. I put E2 in the stand as usual today, and she was quite shocked to discover one of the barn cats sleeping on her food.
