That’s a wrap on the 2026 mosquito season!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who trusted MD Elite Mosquito Services with their yards this year. As a small, locally owned business, every customer, referral, recommendation, and share truly means a lot.

This was my first season in business, and I couldn’t be happier with how it went. MD Elite more than tripled its customer base from the beginning of the season to the end, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who gave a new local business a chance and helped spread the word.

And what a season it was! Between the mosquitoes and the insane amount of rain we had this year, Mother Nature definitely kept me busy.

I hope everyone enjoyed more time outside with fewer mosquitoes — whether it was relaxing on the patio, swimming in the pool, grilling, or just enjoying the backyard.

I’m already looking ahead to 2027 and continuing to grow MD Elite while providing the same personal, dependable service.

Thank you again for an awesome first season!

🌧️ Rain is on the way — keep an eye out for standing water!

After the rain moves through this week, take a quick walk around your yard and dump out any standing water.

Bird baths, buckets, flowerpots, toys, and other containers can all hold enough water for mosquitoes to breed.

Empty standing water, give bird baths a quick rinse, and refill them with fresh water regularly.

A few minutes around the yard can eliminate potential breeding spots before mosquitoes get a chance to develop.

Even on vacation, I’m always thinking about mosquitoes.

Turns out the Bahamas has mosquitoes too… but this local was a lot friendlier. 😂

🚨 MD Elite Most Wanted – File #002

Meet the Northern House Mosquito — also known as The Midnight Menace.

Unlike the Asian Tiger Mosquito from File #001, this one is most active from dusk through dawn and commonly breeds in stagnant water around storm drains, clogged gutters, bird baths, and other areas around your property.

West Nile Virus Detected in Anne Arundel County

The Maryland Department of Agriculture has confirmed that mosquitoes collected in Anne Arundel County have tested positive for West Nile virus.

While the risk to most people remains low, this is an important reminder that mosquito control is about more than just avoiding itchy bites.

You can help protect your family by:

• Emptying standing water at least once a week from buckets, flower pots, birdbaths, toys, tarps, and gutters.

• Keeping grass mowed and trimming shrubs where mosquitoes rest during the day.

• Cleaning clogged gutters so rainwater doesn’t collect.

• Changing water in birdbaths and pet bowls every few days.

• Storing boats, kayaks, wheelbarrows, and other equipment so they don’t hold rainwater.

• Repairing window and door screens to keep mosquitoes out of your home.

• Wearing EPA-registered insect repellent when spending time outdoors.

• Wearing long sleeves and pants when outside around dawn and dusk, when many mosquitoes are most active.

• Using outdoor fans on patios and decks, since mosquitoes are weak fliers.

• Keeping swimming pools clean, chlorinated, and circulating.

Routine mosquito treatments can also help reduce mosquito populations around your property throughout the season.

At MD Elite Mosquito Services, we’re proud to help families throughout Pasadena and Anne Arundel County enjoy their backyards with fewer mosquitoes.

Mosquito Tip of the Week

Rain barrels are great for conserving water—but only if they’re maintained properly.

This homeowner had standing water and organic debris sitting in the barrel, creating ideal conditions for mosquitoes to lay eggs.

We treated this rain barrel with BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), a mosquito larvicide that targets mosquito larvae in standing water. It’s a great option for water that can’t be emptied regularly.

Take a few minutes each week to inspect rain barrels, birdbaths, gutters, flower pots, and anything else that collects water.

Myth Busters #001

Many people think mosquitoes only come out at dusk.

In reality, Asian Tiger Mosquitoes—one of the most common mosquitoes in Anne Arundel County—bite during the day, which is why people often get bitten while gardening, playing with the kids, or relaxing outside in the afternoon.

Have you ever noticed mosquitoes biting you during the daytime?

Your backyard should belong to your family… not the mosquitoes.

Summer is meant for swimming, relaxing, and spending time outside—not swatting mosquitoes.
