How I set up my stove for a fire, this is a lower center "main inlet " for air. Also size pieces i use. Against what old common practices preaches, large logs doesn't mean long burn times. The newer stoves like baseball to max softball diameter pieces to get best heat.

Smoke detectors – homeowners should have a smoke detector on each level
of the home. There are two types of smoke detectors and the chimney professional
should be aware of each, as well as their strengths.
- Ionization - these detectors use a small electric current produced from a tiny
radioactive charge. When small particles of smoke enter the detector and they
interrupt the detectors charge resulting in the alarm sounding. The advantage to
this style of detector is that it responds to tiny particles of smoke and provides
early warning of a rapidly developing, hot, open flame fire.
- Photoelectric – this style detector works by using a small light and a photocell
which are located at a set angle to each other. When a smoke particle passes
thru, it interrupts the light beam and sets the detector’s alarm off, causing it to
sound. The advantage of this style detector is that it responds to visible smoke
particles alerting the homeowner to a smoldering fire.

A site that I have come across that has a great amount of information about firewood and what to look for. The more you know, the safer you burn.

As Chimney professionals, we get asked a lot of questions and provide a best burn practice to our customers. An informed customer burns better and not only makes our job easier but more importantly burns safer.
So this in mind ask us your questions (posted or DM) and help us make a FAQ that we can provide.
The only dumb question is the one you dont ask.

To all of our customers and those looking for quality Chimney work, this time of year we get our most complaints, mainly about not being able to reach us.
We are a company of four people. We have only one crew to complete jobs. We would love to have more crews but finding people that hold up to our standards are very difficult to find and so one crew is what we have. We also receive 60-80 phone calls per DAY, thus why the voicemail is often full. If you have given us a deposit, then you are on our list, we do not take deposits and run. We have been in business for over 36 years and look forward to at least that many more.
