Common cleaning products that can cause damage if used wrong:

Magic erasers
They’re basically fine-grit sandpaper… great when used right, but can dull paint, cabinets, and finishes fast.

Dawn Powerwash
Cuts grease really well, but can strip protective coatings off wood, some cabinets, and certain finishes over time.

Bar Keepers Friend
Amazing product, but it’s abrasive + acidic. Can scratch stainless, dull polished surfaces, and damage natural stone.

Bleach
Not a “cleaner” like people think… it disinfects. Can discolor fabrics, damage grout over time, and react badly if mixed.

Vinegar
People use it for everything, but it can etch natural stone like granite, marble, and travertine.

Pumice stones
Great for hard water rings in toilets, but can scratch porcelain, tubs, and anything not durable enough.

Glass cleaner (ammonia-based)
Can damage tinted windows, TV screens, and some specialty coatings.

Steam cleaners
Love them but too much heat/moisture can warp floors, damage cabinets, and loosen adhesives.

Degreasers
Super strong… but can strip paint, finishes, and even discolor surfaces if left too long.

Stainless steel + abrasives
Magic erasers and rough sponges can scratch stainless fast. Always use a soft cloth or sponge and clean with the grain, not against it.

Just because something “works” doesn’t mean it’s safe for every surface. Always match the product to the material.
