Here's why pet odor can be so difficult to eliminate:
1. Humidity reactivates odors.
Pet urine leaves behind hygroscopic (moisture-attracting) salts. During humid Kansas City weather, these salts absorb moisture, creating conditions that can encourage bacterial activity. As urine residues decompose, ammonia and other unpleasant odors can be released back into the air.

2. Pets may continue using the same area.
Just 4 ounces of urine a day adds up to over 11 gallons a year! Imagine that concentrated in one area of your home.

3. Every carpet system is different.

“Performance Fabric” Isn’t a Fiber.

We’re seeing more upholstery labeled “performance fabric” that actually contains cotton, rayon/viscose or other moisture-sensitive fibers.
That matters.
When improperly cleaned, these fabrics can develop yellow or brown discoloration known as cellulosic browning—especially on white and light-colored upholstery.
The word performance doesn’t tell us how to clean it. The actual fiber content does.
That’s why identifying and testing the fabric before cleaning is so important.
