Lola’s Story 🐶 11/01/2010-07/12/2026
Fury babies always tend to just appear to our family. We rescue, nurture, and home any pup that comes our way. Our family simply can’t say no. Out of the numerus dogs we’ve brought into our little family, one in particular has changed our lives tremendously. As she rounded the corner to her 16th year with us, we thought it would be time to share how God had put this miracle into our lives and what made her so special.
Lola was born from an ‘accidental litter’ from another one of our fur babies and shared the same birthday as us (Mom and Dad and Lola all share a birthday) November 1st, 2010. She was one of eight, and one of two we kept. Before, when she was just the size of our palm, she was promised to a hometown neighbor but then we soon realized she fit better with us.
Living in the country, our dogs roamed the yard, played, and protected us. A pack. Unfortunately, all puppies become curious, and Lola ventured past the grass of our yard and into someone else’s. She played immensely with the neighbor kids, being the friendly one-year old pup, we knew so well. A storm brewed one night, and she had gone too far from home, getting her trail mixed up. She lost her way and took a turn down a driveway that would soon alter her path in this life. A heart-breaking moment, devastating for our family. To find out someone who lived so near would do something so evil to a harmless puppy. Lola was lost, alone, and shot in the head three times. Her collar, with our name and address, discarded like she didn’t belong to someone. People who loved her and were aimlessly worried sick. Lola was a brave girl, though. She managed to navigate home and tuck herself beneath the protection of her sister. We found her the next morning, shaken and in pain. It was a gruesome sight. Our little Lola was hanging on by the sheer will of God and the love we had for her.
We rushed her to the nearby vet, whose workers were angels in Heaven. And by the grace of God, the skills of the veterinarians, and the company’s tender hearts to save her for next to nothing of cost, Lola managed to hang in there. Our family waited on her hand-and-foot, feeding her by palm, hydrating her through a syringe. Our son sleeping beside her every night to make sure she was okay. Lola, though brave and strong, had just started this new life-long struggle. Her fear of loud noises made it impossible for fireworks on July 4th. Her intense seizures from the bullets in her skull, put our other fur babies on edge. Around the clock care was difficult but necessary for our family. But we spared no expense. Lola had her own neurologists and is still the sharpest Lab out there.
As she grew older, our love and fight for her has never wavered. She has defied against two rounds of cancer and surgeries, out lived all the older dogs, and managed to play Alpha dog very well. . We continued to celebrate all our birthdays, check on her at night, give her daily doses of her seizure medicine even though she fights tooth and nail every time. Her beautiful coat now grey, but her youthful prance still showed the life we are so grateful she got to live. And although her road has been difficult and still far from normal, she was still such a special pup.
On July 12th, 2026, Lola had a seizure. They weren’t frequent, but each one was harder for her to conquer, and this specific morning was no different. She was the bravest dog, but every good soldier needs to rest. As a family, we decided it was time for our special girl to join her brothers and sisters. We asked for an at home euthanasia so she would be as comfortable as possible and that evening, surrounded by her sister’s and family, Lola passed over the rainbow bridge.
We wanted to share this story for many reasons: Lola was the employee of the year for five consistent years over here at Main St. Car Wash & L**e Center. Loved by all employees and customers. She was the heart of our family, and we wanted to express our gratitude and honor our girl Lo.
Lola will forever be unique to our family. Born into it, sharing the same birthday, fighting through any and all tribulations, all while being the bravest dog in the pack. Our family would not be the same without her. We will continue to nurture and love any dog God decides to lead our way because we know Lola had something to do with it. She is the guardian now and will be forever.
