The 1913 Stutz Bearcat (Series B) is one of the most legendary, definitive early American sports cars ever built. Produced by the Stutz Motor Car Company in Indianapolis, Indiana, it was celebrated as a "race car for the road" after a prototype famously finished 11th at the inaugural 1911 Indianapolis 500. This feat earned Stutz the iconic marketing slogan: “The Car That Made Good in a Day”.
Performance & Legacy
Racing Dominance: The Bearcat won 25 out of 30 races it entered in 1912, cementing its performance reputation by 1913.
Coast-to-Coast Record: Its extreme durability was proven when Erwin “Cannon Ball” Baker drove a Bearcat from Los Angeles to New York in 11 days, 7 hours, and 15 minutes, inspiring the modern concept of the "Cannonball Run".
Historical Rivalry: Engaged in a fierce, legendary East Coast vs. Midwest rivalry
with New Jersey’s Mercer Raceabout.
Collector Value: Due to their extreme rarity and status as "America's First Supercar," authentic 1913 Bearcats frequently command between $140,000 and $423,000+ at elite collector auctions.
