Day three of the swimming pool season is often the most important because it falls on Memorial Day — the day that truly launches summer for communities across the country. While opening weekend brings excitement, Memorial Day carries much deeper meaning and significance.

It is the day where communities gather not only to enjoy their pools, families, and friends, but also to remember and honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Because of that, swimming pools become more than recreational facilities, they become places where communities unite together.

For pool operators, staff, and lifeguards, Memorial Day represents:

💙The first true full-capacity operational day of the season
💙 A major test of safety, preparedness, teamwork, and professionalism
💙 The beginning of daily summer routines for families and residents
💙A responsibility to provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment during one of the busiest and most meaningful holidays of the year

That is why day three of the season is so important. It sets the standard and tone for the entire summer ahead while honoring the meaning behind Memorial Day itself — service, sacrifice, community, and remembrance

This spring, we were honored to be part of the LOUYAA Youth Night at Oakdale High School as a sponsor vendor for the Bears vs. Linganore girls JV and varsity lacrosse games.

In the weeks leading up to the event — and ever since — we’ve learned just how many Oakdale Girls Lacrosse players are also part of the RPS Pools family. Seeing these athletes represent both their team and our company has made us even more invested in the success of the program and the community.

Congratulations to the team on an outstanding season! We look forward to continuing our support of Oakdale Girls Lacrosse and Oakdale athletics into the 2026–2027 season.

A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) for a pool motor is an electronic controller that adjusts the speed of a motor by changing the frequency and voltage of the power supplied to it. A 3-phase 10 HP pool motor running at or near full load typically draws about 8.3 kW of real power after motor efficiency is accounted for.

So for 24 hours:

10 HP × 0.746 = 7.46 kW output
Assuming about 90% motor efficiency:
7.46 ÷ 0.90 ≈ 8.29 kW input

Daily energy use:
8.29 kW × 24 hr ≈ 199 kWh/day

Using Maryland’s January 2026 commercial average electricity price of 18.19¢/kWh, that comes to:

199 × $0.1819 ≈ $36.20 per day Estimated cost for running a 7.5-10 horsepower pool motor per day varies between this number and close to $60 per day x 101 days in the summer not to mention starting it up in late-March to Mid to late April which adds additional days to your bill. Using a variable frequency drive can cut your energy savings in 1/2 and you will see an immediate return for your investment. A V
