We make small adjustments throughout the wash based on the rug’s construction, fibers, and dye stability. The rug is then thoroughly washed and rinsed, while the squeegee helps remove water, soil, and cleaning solution from the rug.

Rinsing is just as important as washing.

A proper rinse removes the loosened soil, cleaning solution, and other residues from the rug. Here we’re squeegeeing this large Persian Sarouk as part of the rinsing process, continuing to flush and remove water until the rug is thoroughly rinsed.

This is why we’re such a big believer in off-site rug cleaning.

Everything you see coming out of this rug is dry soil, dust, pet hair, allergens, and grit that accumulated over years of use.

Removing this material before washing is one of the most important steps in proper rug cleaning, and it’s something that just isn’t possible with in-home cleaning methods.

This Persian Heriz had a rough day.

After getting wet in a flooded basement, the dyes bled throughout the rug, leaving color where it definitely wasn’t supposed to be.

We were able to safely clean it, fully sanitize it, and correct the color run and bring it back to life.

Q: Can s**g rugs be cleaned?

A: Absolutely.

A s**g rug might be difficult for your vacuum to clean, but that’s not a problem for a professional wash facility. We clean s**g rugs every day using specialized equipment designed to flush dirt from deep within the pile.

And despite the thick fibers, they’re typically dry by the next morning.

Just because it’s s**g doesn’t mean it can’t be cleaned.

While an untrained person might panic when they see colors bleeding during a wash, an experienced rug washer barely notices. In many handmade rugs, it’s completely normal for excess dye to release during cleaning.

The key isn’t stopping the dye from moving. It’s having the knowledge, chemistry, and wash process to control it. With the right systems in place, those loose dyes can be safely flushed away instead of redepositing where they don’t belong.

This is one of those things that looks alarming to the average person but is simply part of properly washing many rugs.

This is the squeegeeing step. Tons of water is flowing through the rug to carry away soil and contaminants, we use a squeegee to physically push that suspended dirty water out of the rug. Then we repeat the process again and again until the water runs clear. Rugs are all we do!
