Pier-and-beam house or an older home with a crawl space? This is one of Blake's own job photos: our tech suited up in a respirator, treating for termites under the floor in a tight West Texas crawl space.
Why it matters: subterranean termites live in the soil. Under a crawl-space home, the dirt sits just a couple of feet from your floor joists, and leaky plumbing or poor venting keeps that soil damp, which is exactly what termites want. Our mild winters around Midland, Odessa, Andrews and Seminole keep them working out of sight all year.
What to do: peek in the crawl-space access with a flashlight. Look for mud tubes on piers and foundation walls, soft or crumbly wood near pipes, and wet soil under plumbing. Fix leaks, keep vents clear, and don't store wood or cardboard under the house. If you see tubes or damage, don't tear them up; let us take a look first.
