New regulatory standards on pool pumps starting July 18, 2021.
The US Department of Energy (DOE) is implementing New Regulatory Standards on Pool Pumps to be effective on July 18, 2021.
1. What does this mean? Well to put it simply, most pumps to be sold and installed on or after July 18, 2021 will have to meet the new DOE Energy Efficient Standards. The majority of pumps that currently meet these standards are Variable Speed Pumps.
2. What about Replacement Motors? This new regulation will also apply to replacement motors for existing pumps. But again, some manufactures will continue to make and sell current style replacement motors until the new codes take effect.
3. Can we still buy and install the Single Speed Pumps we are used to? YES – But only until current stock runs out after the new standards are implemented. Some manufactures will still be making and selling all pumps until the first part of July 2021, while others will start implementing the changes sooner. As of July 19, 2021 the manufactures will no longer legally be allowed to produce or sell pumps that do not meet the new DOE standards – however, they will still be allowed to sell product manufactured before the July 18 deadline. BUT -Once that product is gone, it’s gone, and all pumps purchased and installed after that will have to meet the new DOE standards. This means that most pumps will have to be the Variable Speed style pumps. However, Some manufactures will still have select single speed pumps available that will meet the new energy efficient standards.
4. Is there a list of what pumps will be available after the DOE standards take effect? We are currently working on getting a list compiled from all manufactures as to what pumps will meet the new DOE standards and will be available for ordering. This information will be provided as it becomes available upon request.
