There's so much to know about bald-faced hornets, it is difficult to summarize in a two minute video, although this covers the basics.

Pavement ants, also sometimes called sugar ants, can be annoying, and problematic. Here is what you need to know.

They like to nest next to stone like materials such as concrete, cement, rocks, sidewalks, driveways, slabs, etc. They like warm sunny locations with easy access to food and water. These pests often nest near your home and come inside exploring for food and water.

To prevent ants, the following steps are recommended.

1. Maintain a clean kitchen environment to eliminate potential food sources for ants. Regularly sweep, mop, and wipe countertops to remove crumbs and spills.

2. Empty and wash garbage and recycling receptacles. Many people don’t realize that these bins need to be cleaned every once in a while. Organic waste sometimes buildup on the bottom of the bins which can again create a feeding source.

3. Store pet food securely in sealed containers to prevent ants from accessing it. Additionally, store the food bag itself in a sealed container to avoid attracting pests.

4. Vinegar, cinnamon, paprika, cayenne, sonic repellers, moth balls, and other deterrents are ultimately ineffective. Don’t waste your money.

5. Over the counter sprays are usually repellant based, which tend to scatter ants. This can kill some of the ants you can see, however, they usually “come back” a month or two later. Hiring a professional can save you time and money in the long run.

If you are dealing with persistent ants, Quality Pest Solutions is here offer services to exterminate the entire colony, not just the ants you can see, so the ants don’t come back! Call us today for more information, or to schedule a free inspection and estimate.

A few helpful tips to aide with keeping Raccoons in their natural environment:

• Take out your garbage regularly, and don’t pile food trash next to the trash bin.
• Make sure the trash receptacles is sealed properly.
• Raccoons look for nesting material, it’s especially important to remove leaf litter, garbage, or any kind of clutter from under your deck and/or next to your home.
• Don’t place firewood immediately next to your home/garage. Make sure there is at least a 3 foot gap between the structure and the wood.
• Don’t leave pet food outside for the animals to feed.
• Never feed wild animals. They will keep coming back, and even become dependent on you for a food source.

Quality Pest Solutions proudly offers trapping services in the event these creatures cross the line and become problems. For more information please give us a call!

This time of year mice are frantically looking for places to escape the cold. Only needing a quarter of an inch to enter the structure, here are a couple things that might indicate a problem:
Check the basement for mouse droppings. Mice usually enter the house at ground level, with the basement being the most likely area. The attic may also be a hotspot if there are any plants or trees that are touching the roof of the structure.
Do not use foam sealants to keep mice out, they can chew right through it and it makes a mess. Copper mesh is the preferred tool of the trade to keep mice out. In our experience, sonic repellers DO NOT work and are basically a scam. Oils, soaps, laundry sheets, moth balls and seasonings also do not seem effective in resolving these types of problems.
If you think mice may be present, we do offer free inspections! Give us a call today for more information or to schedule an appointment!

Yellowjackets: Don't seal the hole!

If you have a hole on the side of your house, and see black and yellow insects flying in and out repeatedly, you may have yellowjackets nesting in your home. Whatever you do, DON'T SEAL THE ENTRY HOLE! If you do, the insects may chew into the building material of your structure, and enter your house. Imaging 3,000 to 5,000 yellowjackets buzzing around your Livingroom, or bedroom.

Yellow jackets are a black and yellow in color, and can sting repeatedly. They are territorial, aggressive, and dangerous. They hate loud noises, and vibrations, they are attracted to sweet smells and bright colors, and may attack if you simply get too close.

That said, most of the over the counter products cannot pe*****te the nest, and only work to make them angry. No need to worry though! Quality Pest Solutions LLC offers free inspections, and in most cases we offer same day or next day service.

This is a carpenter ant. Contrary to popular belief, they do not eat wood but do excavate into it leaving a small pile of shavings near the entrance and can cause significant structural damage. The ones with wings are called "swarmers" and appear in Spring. Fortunately they are covered under our General Pest Control programs and can be completely eliminated. Give us a call and/or text for a free inspection!
