This weekend, we were moving the final items into our new Bloombrite Cleaning officeโฆ and instead of just organizing supplies and unpacking, we ended up doing something totally unexpected:
We rescued four stranded kittensโฆ from the roof. ๐ณ๐ฑ
I was with my 4-year-old daughter, Mia, when we heard loud, frantic cries. My parents were just arriving with their vehicles full of boxes. Mia and I ran around following the sound โ and to our shock, we spotted tiny kittens crying from the rooftop.
One had already fallen off the roof into a pile of leaves (thank God for those leaves!), one was in the gutter, and two more were overheating and pacing around on the hot roof.
Luckily, we had a ladder from last weekendโs move. I climbed up and gently got them all down, with help from my amazing parents. My daughter watched over one that ad fallen off the roof while my mom sprang into action with a crate, blanket, and cat food she already had in her car โjust in case she ran into strays one dayโ. That day was today.
We posted to the Milford Matters group and started calling around for advice. My mom drove to Pet Supplies Plus in Highland, who were absolutely amazing! They helped my mom grab kitten formula, feeding supplies, and more and sent her back to us.
Meanwhile, I spoke with my friend Angel who imformed me that we needed to stimulate them to pee/poop before feeding. (Who knew?! Thank you, Angel!) We got them fed and settled while we waited to see if mama would return. Not too much longer, Mia spotted the mama cat nearby! Good eye, Mia!!
Mama kitty was skittish, but after some clever crate setup and silent teamwork with my mom signaling me from one side while I approached the crate from behind, we were able to gently reunite the mama with her babies.
A local neighbor Ann and her friend Sue also came out with a larger cage, kitty litter, and backup support, and weโre now keeping them all safe and cozy in the office while we figure out a longer-term plan.
It wasnโt the move-in day we expectedโฆ
But it was a reminder of why we do what we do.
๐ฑ We show up to serve. We act with heart. We care, deeply, for our community.
Thanks to everyone who supported, offered advice, and cheered us on.
Weโll keep you posted. ๐งก
