After more than 25 years in the chimney industry, one of the most common misconceptions I encounter is the belief that all chimney liners are essentially the same. Nothing could be further from the truth.
While many companies advertise a “stainless steel liner installation,” the reality is that there are enormous differences in material quality, wall thickness, insulation methods, installation practices, safety procedures, liner sizing, and long-term durability. The liner system you choose today will determine how safely and efficiently your heating appliances operate for decades to come.

The Problems With Cheap Chimney Liner Systems
Many low-cost chimney relining companies utilize thin-wall corrugated liners manufactured from lower-grade stainless steel alloys. These systems are often marketed as “double-wall” liners or promoted using terminology designed to sound superior, despite offering little real-world advantage in durability or performance.
The primary concern with many inexpensive liner systems is that they possess what is known as “memory.” When these liners are bent, crushed, stretched, or forced around offsets during installation, the stainless steel attempts to return to its original shape.
