This is a beautiful tapestry that was saved from the Notre Dame Cathedral. The article states it weighed 3 tons when it was wet, as wool soaks up 3x it's weight in water. Just imagine if it had made of cotton, as cotton soaks up 10x it's weight in water. The article also states that it was placed in a container below -32*f to prevent mold. The sub zero temperatures will also kill any moth larvae that would otherwise wreak havoc on it as well. Perhaps there was a silver lining to the fire after all, as moths and larvae do serious damage to organic material, especially wool.
