As the weather warms up, don’t panic if you start seeing a yellow ring around your pool tiles 👀

It’s usually not algae — it’s pollen. Just like it bothers your sinuses this time of year, it can also collect in your pool. Because pollen is so light, it floats on the surface and tends to gather along the tile line when the pump shuts off.

The good news is it’s an easy fix. Grab a tile brush with a little soap and give the tile line a quick scrub before it builds up too much. After that, run your pool filter and consider adding a small amount of enzyme to help break down the organic material.

Once you know what it is, it’s a quick and simple problem to solve 💦

The dry season has been brutal this year. A lot of pools are getting topped off once or twice a week. But here’s the part most people don’t realize… city water comes with a little surprise.

Phosphates.

And phosphates are basically food for algae.

If you’re constantly adding fresh water, you’re constantly reintroducing nutrients that can fuel growth. Make sure you’re not just balancing chlorine. Test for phosphates regularly and treat them proactively before they turn into a bigger problem 💦

With lower temperatures expected this weekend, we recommend that our customers run their pool pumps overnight. Keeping the water moving helps prevent freezing in the plumbing and protects your pool equipment during cold weather.
