🐍 Seeing more snakes around your home lately?

Fall can bring more snake sightings in Missouri as they search for food, shelter, and places to spend the winter. Your yard may offer a convenient stop!

What could be attracting them?
🐭 Mice and other small prey.
🍂 Leaf piles, brush, tall grass, and stacked firewood.
🏠 Gaps around foundations and doors that provide access to sheltered spaces.

Make your property less inviting:
✅ Keep grass trimmed and remove brush and debris.
✅ Store firewood away from your home and off the ground.
✅ Pick up outdoor pet food and spilled birdseed.
✅ Seal gaps around doors, pipes, and foundations.
✅ Address rodent activity.

Many snakes help control pests! If you see one, give it space, keep children and pets back, and avoid handling it.

Chilton’s Environmental Termite & Pest Control can help check for rodent activity and discuss prevention around your home.

🍂🕷️ Are brown recluse spiders still active in the fall? YES!

Cooler weather doesn’t mean they’ve disappeared. Brown recluse can remain active during fall—and warm indoor spaces can allow them to stay active year-round. They prefer quiet, dark hiding spots like closets, storage areas, and tucked-away boxes.

As you pull out jackets, boots, and fall decorations, keep these tips in mind:

🍁 Check and shake out shoes and clothing that have been stored.
🍁 Wear gloves when handling boxes or moving stored items.
🍁 Reduce clutter and store seasonal items in sealed plastic bins.
🍁 Seal cracks and gaps around your home.

Brown recluse are shy and usually avoid people, but bites can happen when one gets trapped against your skin. Avoid handling an unfamiliar spider.

Seeing spiders around your home or business? Chilton’s Environmental Termite & Pest Control can help identify the problem and recommend the next steps.

🌿 Tiny pests, big plant problems—what are spider mites?

Spider mites are tiny relatives of spiders that feed on plants. They’re so small you may notice their damage before you spot the mites themselves!

🔍 What should you look for?
• Tiny pale or yellow speckles on leaves
• Leaves turning bronze, drying out, or dropping
• Fine, delicate webbing around leaves and stems
• Tiny moving dots on the undersides of leaves

Spider mites can affect houseplants, flowers, shrubs, and garden plants. Many thrive in warm, dry conditions and can multiply quickly.

💧 Help protect your plants by checking leaves regularly, watering appropriately, and rinsing the undersides of leaves to help dislodge mites. Inspect outdoor plants before bringing them inside, too!

Not every yellow leaf means spider mites—identifying the pest is the first step toward choosing the right solution.
