Here at Centurion Pest Management, we believe that protection and prevention go hand-in-hand. A treatment plan can only go so far if conducive conditions are still favorable. While our quarterly pest control service is our most popular option, many people question whether they truly need a quarterly service?
There are several benefits to keeping a regular service. Mainly it helps to keep the pest population from growing; given our milder winters here in Georgia, it is very helpful to keep pests at bay, especially when spring hits.
Additionally it is typically exterior only, which does not require scheduling or anyone to be home at the time of service.
It is also cost effective as compared to one-time services and given that a technician is performing an exterior inspection around your home every few months, any issues that arise will be caught sooner.

So you see some small bugs and are concerned they might be termites, but how do you know? There are a few indicators. Swarms of bugs around a window or doorframe in the spring as temperatures start to warm up tend to make us think termites. This is when they become active, especially after rain when humidity is higher.
A few other ways are to examine the bugs themselves, looking at the antennae and waist (see previous post for more details). And lastly you can check your crawlspace and/or basement for mud tubes, which is how the termites move to reach wood to feed.

You see a small bug that resembles an ant, but what if it's a termite? If it's a swarmer, it will have wings but worker or solider termites don't so wings are not a reliable indicator. The easiest way to determine is looking at the antennae. If they are straight, it's a termite (ants have elbowed or bent antennae). Further confirmation is looking at the body. Termites have no waistline whereas ants have pinched waists. If you are still unsure, give us a call!
