How to Get a Cooking Oil Stain out of Clothing
1) Blot the excess cooking oil out with paper towels. Use plain, white paper towels, as some oil can remove dyes from towels or paper towels.
2) Apply baking soda to the stain. Sprinkle the baking soda generously over the stain. Use cornmeal if you do not have baking soda. Let the soda sit on the stain for 60 minutes. The baking soda should turn light brown as it soaks up the oil.
Scrape the baking soda off with a credit card or hard card stock.
For particularly deep or large stains, remove 1 layer of baking soda and pour another generous layer on top. Repeat the process until the baking soda no longer turns brown.
3) Apply dish washing detergent to the stain as a pre-treatment.
Rub a damp sponge covered in detergent on the stain until it lathers, then use an old toothbrush to work the dish washing liquid further into the stain.
4) Wash the stained clothing in the clothes washer on the hottest possible setting. Hot water helps to "melt" the oil.
Load 1 or 2 other non-delicate items into the washer.
Pour the normal recommended amount of clothes washing detergent. Add 1/2 to 1 cup (118 to 237 ml) of vinegar to the wash cycle to increase the efficacy of the detergent. This will also help to take out bad odors that emanate from oil stains.
5) Dry piece of clothing as you usually would. Stains that remain should be taken to the dry cleaners for removal.
How this helps :)
