www.jemadesigninc.com/schedule Design has been a passion of mine from a young age and very much inspired by my mother who was a seamstress. I also used to spend Christmases decorating my grandparents’ home in Belize and found that my “happy place” has always been arranging furniture and choosing decór. When I was 18, I migrated from Belize to LA and eventually moved to New York, where my interior design studio is today. From working in the Brooklyn DA’s office to the NYU School of Medicine, I have a diverse career background but always knew that interior design was my true calling—so I followed it! I first completed an interior decorating course while working for two major design firms in Staten Island before founding Jema Design in 2005. Having grown my clientele and connections, I felt it was time to further my education, and in 2014, I graduated with a BFA in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), one of the most prestigious design schools in the world. My strong connections to local tradespeople, contractors, and vendors in Staten Island and beyond enables me to execute design journeys from beginning to end. Managing all communications with my partner network, I relieve my clients of the hassle of organizing an entire remodeling project. It’s my mission to create the best living experience for my clients through functional space design and compelling interior architecture. Along with my interior design team, I create modern homes and businesses that blend architecture, art, light, shadow, texture, and color to create an environment that reflects the unique lives of my clients.

A sea of pink, and a reminder of why it matters.

Along the Coney Island boardwalk this October, survivors, families, friends, and supporters walked side by side. Hope, strength, and love were printed on so many of the shirts, and you could feel it in the crowd.

To everyone affected by breast cancer: we’re thinking of you this month and always.

If you could only automate one thing in your home, what would it be?

Swipe through to compare four of the most popular smart home upgrades:

Lighting, for scenes that change the feel of a room without touching a switch.
Shades, to protect your finishes and balance natural light through the day.
Thermostat, for steady comfort that adjusts to your routine.
Security, with locks, cameras, and sensors that blend into the design.

Each one improves how a home works. The difference is in how well it’s planned alongside the design.

Staten Island’s colonials and Cape Cods have a charm that’s hard to replicate. They also tend to come with small closets, sloped ceilings, and layouts that weren’t designed for modern living.

Good design doesn’t fight the architecture. It uses it. With the right built-ins, custom storage, and thoughtful furniture choices, even the most compact rooms can feel organized and open.

Same space. Entirely new story. ✨

This lower-level entertainment lounge went from a warm, rustic retreat — heavy timber beams, stone accents, classic lodge character — to a bold, sophisticated statement piece with lacquered black cabinetry, brass fixtures, and a striking graphic rug that anchors the whole room.

The layout didn't change. The staircase, the pool table, the wet bar — all in the same place. What changed is the vision.

That's the difference thoughtful design makes: the same bones, a completely different feeling.

The paint color you fell in love with at the store isn't always the one you'll love once it's on your wall — and here in Staten Island, natural light has a lot to do with that.

North-facing rooms tend to read cooler and grayer. South-facing rooms warm colors up. And that "perfect neutral" can shift from beige to pink, green, or gray depending on the time of day.

A few things we always check before finalizing a color:
✔️ How the room looks in morning, afternoon, and evening light
✔️ The undertones hiding in every "neutral"
✔️ How the color interacts with existing flooring, trim, and furniture

Choosing paint color isn't guesswork — it's about understanding how light and space work together.

Thinking about a color refresh? We'd love to help you get it right the first time.

01 Smart lighting
02 Automated shades
03 Smart climate control
04 Integrated security
05 Centralized control

The homes that sell fastest aren't the ones with the most tech — they're the ones where the tech is invisible.
