It is very important to have your dryer vent cleaned. If you choose a professional company to clean your vent system, make sure they clean the exhaust on the roof. Sometimes the roofing company may forget to remove the wire screen and thats where lent can build up. So don't let anyone fool you that its not important to go on the roof to clean the exhaust. So whoever you choose make sure to get a complete vent cleaning, to prevent costly breakdowns and the threat of a fire.

Many people think about giving their home a major cleaning this time of year. (Spring Cleaning time)
It may also be a good time to remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. However it is also a good time to consider cleaning your dryer vent system.
Most dryer manufacturers recommend having the entire vent system including ductwork and roof exhaust cleaned annually. This will keep your dryer performing optimally, preventing extended drying times, burning out of heating elements and most importantly preventing a fire due to excessive lint build up.
Note the picture below, a build up of lint in the interior of a dryer due to a restriction in the dryer vent ductwork. The 2nd picture is after a thorough cleaning of the interior of the dryer. The next 2 pictures show a vent duct that was completely full of lint and a roof exhaust 100% blocked with lint.
