Imagine not doing your job for eight months. Eight. You’d be packing up your desk before lunch. But in Raleigh, Republican lawmakers are doing exactly that. It’s been eight months since the state budget was due. They have a supermajority, meaning they hold all the cards and control the entire agenda.

While they bicker behind closed doors playing political games, everyday North Carolinians are left holding the bag. Public school teachers are waiting on crucial classroom funding, state employees are stuck in financial limbo without the raises they were promised, and vital Medicaid funding is stalled out, leaving folks without the care they deserve. Governor Stein put forth a Critical Needs Budget that would help fill these gaps but predictably Republican Leadership has continued to drag their feet.

This November, we have the chance to break the supermajority, take our state back, and elect leaders who actually get the job done. If Raleigh Republicans can’t even pass a basic budget, they have no business running our state.
