It is with great sorrow, that after 18+ years, I tell those that supported me through the years, I am closing my doors. Between personal issues, health issues and employment issues, I just felt that this was the "right" time. My 800 number has been sold to another company that has the same philosophy as I do.

I got a phone call yesterday about a possible single baby left in a tree. The mother raccoon had not been back for two days, one night. We gave it one more night to see if she would come back and she didn't. So I was hired to get that baby out of the tree and save its little life. Off to my rehabilitator I went. Poor little thing was so hungry :(

So this was a first for me! Birds that fly straight up through a chimney flue! These are some of the fledglings. what kind of bird you ask? It’s called a chimney Swift! They are federally protected so unfortunately the homeowner is going to have to live with their chirping until they take off in the fall!

You say muskrat love? The other day I caught Susie and now I caught Sam! Who’s next? Lol.

One thing I will mention is that I have been told it’s hard to catch muskrats during this time of the year in a cage. I guess I make it look easy :-)

This is what you catch when your customer thinks they have opossums in their barn! Upon inspection, I thought they had rats or groundhogs due to their coloring, size, and the holes they made in the dirt. Nope…we are both wrong! It’s muskrats!!

Today was partly a starling emergency day.

First I had an emergency in Bethpage where a fledgling fell down the wall of a dentist office. I had to cut through the sheetrock to find it. I was able to go back into the attic and release it in the nest where its siblings were until it is ready to fly.

Then I got a call about a fledgling that fell down the wall of a real estate agency in Williston Park. (By the description from the customer, we were thinking it was a baby squirrel!) I had to cut the sheetrock in the office in order to find it. I finally remembered to take a picture as I was too busy trying to save a life. This time I couldn't find the nest and Chelsea Euliano came to my aid and took the fledgling from me and will get it the help that it needs

As they say, it takes a village!

Thank you to Karenlynn Stracher for stepping up and rescuing this box turtle that was brought in to the animal shelter where I volunteer. I am so thankful for her help and her undying services for these animals! Her knowledge and her help goes beyond what you can imagine. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Look at this tiny vent opening that was ripped off by a mama raccoon to get into this attic! It is no more than about 5 inches and she was able to squeeze in there to have her babies!

It’s not very often that I catch two adult raccoons in the same cage! Juveniles, yes, as they are not that bright! Lol But adults, not very often, if at all. This cage weighed well over 50 pounds!
