When assessing the purchase of an older residence with varied drain pipe materials such as cast iron, PVC, and ceramic, it is crucial to include a sewer drain camera inspection in the evaluation process. The accompanying images depict a thorough inspection of ceramic drain pipes in a recent home assessment, revealing extensive damage from tree roots and multiple pipe fractures. The severity of the damage impeded camera progression, underscoring the importance of this inspection. Had this inspection not been performed, the new homeowner would have potentially faced considerable financial liabilities for pipe repairs and replacements. This concern is not unique to older homes, as PVC pipes in newer residences can also be susceptible to tree root intrusion and pipe damage due to poor landscaping decisions. Consequently, it is essential for prospective homebuyers to prioritize sewer pipe camera inspections as a contingency in their purchase agreements. We trust that this advice will be beneficial, and we intend to provide additional plumbing guidance and examples in the future.
