PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
While you’re taking care of yourself, don’t forget your neighbors. Check on people with special needs — the elderly, those with handicaps, those without transportation. If you’re able, do some shoveling for them. Make sure they have heat and food and a way to call for help if they need it.
If you have pets, keep them indoors. For animals that must stay outside, make sure they have shelter and access to unfrozen water. Speaking of water, it’s a good idea to keep water dripping from hot and cold faucets in the kitchen and bathroom to avoid pipes freezing.
If you need information on warming centers, or any assistance due to the cold weather, please contact United Way of Lake County by calling 211 or (855) 677-5253. You can also TEXT your zip code to 898-211 and someone will lead you to the help you need. These resources are available 24/7 and in 150+ languages.
