When you work with the right people, wearing these suits isn’t such a big deal. 82 degrees outside, no power inside, just the help of our trusty suit cooling fans.

This mold infested basement is no match for us but we will definitely lose at least 5lbs of water weight.

It’s never fun when you walk into your new investment property and 2’ of water “magically” appears in your basement.

Tried going for a 60 min clearance but we had to settle for 74 min due to a slow start. Couldn’t find the torque wrench 🤣

Got a call regarding a “musty smell” in the attic. Finding the cause of the smell was easy but upon further investigation, the roof was in great shape yet the gutters were completely clogged up.
Our analysis is that during the winter months, the melted snow had no where to go but into the attic area caused by ice dams forming. Add that to the heavy showers we experienced, so we got the call.

Luckily this was a very inexpensive fix and customer was happy with how we handled it.

Recommendation: yearly gutter cleaning, preferably in the late fall and/or gutter guards.

On to the next.

After a long and busy winter, I finally got to detail the big beast of the group. I didn’t realize it was going to take almost 3 hours. Next time I’m putting it on the to-do list for the crew to do 🤣🤣🤣

Stay warm out there

The National Weather Service has issued an EXTREME COLD WARNING. It is in effect from 3:00 AM TO NOON CST FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills between 30 and 40 below are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central, north central, and northeast Illinois.

* IMPACTS...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Coldest wind chills are expected across interior portions of northern Illinois.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.

While you’re taking care of yourself, don’t forget your neighbors. Check on people with special needs — the elderly, those with handicaps, those without transportation. If you’re able, do some shoveling for them. Make sure they have heat and food and a way to call for help if they need it.

If you have pets, keep them indoors. For animals that must stay outside, make sure they have shelter and access to unfrozen water. Speaking of water, it’s a good idea to keep water dripping from hot and cold faucets in the kitchen and bathroom to avoid pipes freezing.

It’s been a busy week with burst pipes but yesterday we were able to assist a customer that was begging to eliminate the ‘musty’ smell. After asking a few questions we were able to find the source of where the smell was coming from. It was a combination of 3 things.
1. Obvious microbial growth (mold)
2. Room to the sewage pump closet had a failed connection to the vent pipe which coincidentally was leaking in the area where mold was growing.
3. A poor cat seeking warmth got trapped and unfortunately didn’t make it out on time

After some good ol’ fashion cleaning, some treatment with an antimicrobial agent, and a mist of lemon scent….. 100% eliminated.

Glad our customer was happy and we now have two more homes to inspect and hope we can deliver the same level of satisfaction.

Oh, why the hard hats? We had to literally stick our heads into subfloor areas and those nails did not look friendly at all
