Hello Facebook, today we will be talking about bald faced hornets!

Despite the name bald faced hornets are actually not considered hornets at all. They are more closely related to yellow jackets. In fact the only true hornet in Pennsylvania is called the European hornet but we'll save them for a future post.

Bald faced hornets are typically black with white markings on their face and have white stripes around their abdomen. They are a type of social wasp that lives in colonies with up to hundreds of other individuals. In the spring they chew wood into a pulp and make a Papier-mâché type nest often the size of a basket ball but sometimes the nests can be as big as 3 feet tall!

These wasps, like most wasps, have smooth stingers which means they can and will sting you repetitively if you threaten them or their nest. They tend to feed on nectar and pollen but because their larvae are meat eaters they also feed on a variety of insects and are a good form of pest control for your garden.

That being said they deliver a painful wasp and with the ability to sting multiple times and in a swarm they tend to pose a dangerous risk to animals, young children, and people who are allergic.

If you find a nest near your home often it is best to just leave it alone. However if it poses a risk to you or your family due to its proximity to your living space the best thing to do is have it removed.

At The Bee-Bros we specialize in removing all wasps and hornet species. We have the proper protective gear, tools, and training to get the job done right. We offer free estimates for removal and first time customers will receive a 25% discount! We are also fully insured and offer a maintenance program to detect and alert you of further wasp infestations through out the year.

If you or anyone you know has a problem with wasps of any kind please send us a message or call us and we will be more than happy to come check the issue out for you and discuss the best possible resolution.

We also ask that you like and share this post as we are a relatively new company that is looking to grow so we can better service our community.

Thanks as always and we wish you the best of days!

Did you know that wasps can build their nests in your home? Often times during the spring, when the queens are looking for a new place to nest, they will make their way into cracks and holes in the exterior of your house. From there they will proceed to wreak havoc on the interior of your walls. As the wasp nest grows in both size and population it will become damp because the wasps produce waste. This dampness will then go on to weaken the materials in your ceiling and walls which could cause a sizable hole resulting in wasps entering your living space which is quite possibly the worst case scenario.

Many species of wasp are capable of chewing through structures such as wood and drywall. They may do this in order to lay new eggs, make room for nest expansion, or to access the heat in your home or attic.

If you’re coming across wasps frequently in your back yard or even in your home, then no, you probably aren’t seeing things. If you suspect that wasps have made a nest inside your home, try to follow their flight path. Groups of wasps will leave the nest at the same time to scavenge for food, and they need to bring it back to the same place feed the queen and their young.

Usually, you’ll be able to see the telltale signs of a wasp nest. If they’ve made their way inside, there’s also a chance that you’ll actually be able to hear the sound of them buzzing in your ceiling.

If you or someone you know is having a problem with wasps please reach out to us via messenger or call the whats app number we have posted. We offer free estimates for removal according to our pricing chart and all new customers will receive a 25% discount.

If you wish to avoid being stung by wasps then it is important to understand the biology of these insects. Wasps communicate through a chemical called pheramones. These pheramones can alter the behavior of other individual wasps in the hive. So for instance lets say you're cutting your grass and you run over a subterranean yellow jacket nest. The guard wasps inside will start fanning these pheramones through the nest with their wings which rallies the troops to attack. They will then swarm you or whatever target threatens the nest relentlessly. Wasps also release this pheramone whenever you crush them which will likely lead to you being swarmed as well. It is important to note here that if you have disturbed a nest the wasps will chase you for up to 300 yards. That's three whole football fields for perspective. It is best to run in a zig zag pattern as fast as you can into shelter. DO NOT dive into water because they will wait for you to surface and resume their attack. The best thing you can do if you encounter a wasp nest is to just leave it alone but if it poses a danger to you or your family it must be removed. If you or anyone you know has a problem nest please reach out to us and we will be more than happy to provide you a free estimate for removal.

TLDR: Crush wasp bad, go near nest bad. If you have a nest call or message us

Introducing to you the faces of The Bee-Bros!

Shane Emerick & Caleb Pulido.

We decided to start this journey to protect people from dangerous stinging wasps and to be a voice for the conservation of these insects as they are vital to our ecosystem and the survival of the human race.

We have very very big plans instore for the future from honey bee relocation and conservation to venom collection and extraction. This will help those allergic persons to undergo therapy to reduce their immune reaction when stung thus potentially saving lives!

We also plan on filming and making content for YouTube and we will be releasing a merch line ranging from cosmetics such as soap and face cream with bee venom(think topical Botox) to t-shirts hoodies and even reusable water bottles!

We are very very excited to be serving all of you in our community and we look forward to hearing from you!

The most common social wasps in Pennsylvania include paper wasps (Polistes species), yellowjackets (Vespula species), bald-faced hornets (Dolichovespula maculata), and European hornets (Vespula crabro).

Technically these are all paper wasps as they chew up wood into a fine pulp and build their nests out of the material. However despite this similarity they are very different and distinct species with their own behavior.

For example Paper wasps, bald-faced hornets, and European hornets typically construct their nests above ground in trees or in the corners and soffits of your house. Worst of all, the most aggressive species, yellow jackets tend to excavate their nests underground in old rodent burrows and cracks in walls or concrete that replicate underground habitats(aka the walls of your house).

The average wasp nest produces between 1000-2000 new queens every year! These queens who have hibernated over the winter typically start to establish their nests in May which is right now!

So with that being said if you or anyone you know has a problematic nest please get into contact with us and we will give you a free estimate for removal.
