Spring Poo
Here we are at springtime, what a welcomed time of year..especially in the predicament the world is in right now! Wanting to be outside, I decided to do some work out in my yard yesterday..We have a small cute little dog and our neighbor, unfortunately for me, has a big dog. Even tho we spend time cleaning up dog poo over the winter I was appalled at the amount of dog f***s that were scattered all over my lawn! So today will be another clean up day😒😷. As I sat in my house last night I pondered the pros and cons of pets and our health. Sure we dearly love our faithful companians, they make us feel good because we know they are attached to us as much as we are to them... But...
Here is the reality of having pets come in our house and walk, sit and lay on our floors, carpet and furniture. It dawned on me that during the winter, even though the f***s and urine in the yard is frozen..and in the spring and summer is not..our pets walk all over out there with their paws, roll in it, sit in it and then come into the house. Their they spread traces of f***s and urine all over any surface in our homes that they walk and lay on. Not to mention they sit their behinds directly on the floor! I am adamant to worm my dog every year..but I doubt my neighbor does with her old dog. Is my dog being infected by her dogs parasites?...likely😔 If we take our dogs to a dog park all winter (and summer), where there are many dogs, the likelyhood is even greater of passing parasites from one dog to another.
Ok, OK..whats the point of this whole discussion? The point is this: Dogs (and cats who paw in their litter box) have parasites that are passed to and thrive in humans. It's a fact! I know that great care should be taken in our homes to keep our floors and funiture extra clean if we have animals in the house. Floors should be disinfected very often. The reality is if we have small children or babies that are crawling on the floor and land face first into the carpet..whats on the carpet? When they put their little fingers in their mouth..what was on those fingers? And when the children go outside in the yard to play, where the dogs go out into to p**p, what are their hands and face landing in when they trip and fall out there? I think we know💩! Don't even think of going barefooted. I think it's odd that its really easy to get the vet to worm the dogs and cats but almost impossible to get a doctor to worm a child.. Who certainly can have some of the same parasites that the pets did.
Well, I know we love our children and our pets so what can be done?
From a cleaning companies standpoint I can make a few suggestions: keep pet f***s cleaned up and don't let the animals p**p in any of the areas your children will be playing in the yard. If you must have pets in the house when you have small childern...keep the dogs clean ( including washing their paws when they come in the house). Avoid allowing them to lay on the furniture where your baby/child is laying or frequents. Keep pet hair vacuumed up so baby isn't eating pet hair or having it stick to it's clothing. Avoid letting young children go barefooted in areas where the pets walk..inside or out. Hook worms can be picked up in the feet. Avoid allowing pets to eat out of or lick plates that are used for humans. They can have parasite ova in their saliva. For sure don't allow pets to lick your childs face or hands for the same reason. Remember what else they have licked prior to licking your child...yuk! Wash floors often and keep carpets clean. Some families choose to not have pets in the house while children are young..or restrict them to areas to facilitate keeping the home clean.
I guess the long and short of it is to, yes, love your pets..but use common sense and take precausions that show you love your children more.
