When it comes to concrete and masonry, pressure washing is still the best method, but we incorporate our soft washing chemicals alongside the pressure to help rid the root cause of mold/ algae growth. So, what is soft washing… Soft washing uses special low-pressure nozzles, spraying a biodegradable chemical that removes the biological elements (mold, algae, pollen, dirt, moss) and other stains without damaging surfaces on your home. This also tends to provide a barrier to new growth for upwards of 3 years! It prevents melting snow (water) from properly draining off the roof. As a result, the trapped water can back up behind the dam and potentially seep into the home, causing damage.

How Does an Ice Dam Form? Ice dams are caused by uneven heating on the roof during winter:
1. Heat from inside the house rises and escapes through the roof, warming the upper sections.
2. Snow melts on the warmer part of the roof and flows down toward the cooler edges, which are above the unheated eaves.
3. At the colder edges, the water refreezes, forming a dam of ice.
4. As more snow melts, water collects behind the dam and cannot drain properly.

What Damage Can Ice Dams Cause?
1. Roof Damage: Water that backs up behind the dam can seep under shingles, loosening them and potentially causing leaks.
2. Interior Damage: Water can infiltrate ceilings, walls, and insulation, leading to stains, mold growth, and structural weakening.
3. Gutter and Eave Damage: The weight of ice can damage gutters and the edges of the roof.
