Haven Launches the Most Comprehensive Free Resource Platform Ever Built for People Experiencing Homelessness, Crisis, and Domestic Violence
New nonprofit platform delivers 1,250+ verified resources, real-time availability, safety planning, anonymous peer reviews, bilingual support, offline access, and a dedicated domestic violence program — all in a single, free, privacy-first application.
MISHAWAKA, IN — June 26, 2026 —
Haven Resource Network Inc., an Indiana nonprofit organization, today announced the public launch of Haven — a first-of-its-kind digital platform connecting people experiencing homelessness, hunger, domestic violence, and crisis with verified local resources across the United States. Available free at haven-app.pplx.app, Haven delivers a full suite of features that no existing resource finder has combined in a single product.
"Haven exists to ensure that no person facing homelessness, hunger, or crisis ever has to face it alone or uninformed," said Willie Peavy, President and Founder of Haven Resource Network Inc. "We built this the way it should have been built from the start — real-time, private, bilingual, and built for the person, not the system."
Platform Overview
Haven is a full-stack web application providing public users with access to a searchable, filterable directory of more than 1,250 verified resource listings spanning shelters, food pantries, hot meal programs, medical clinics, mental health services, clothing distribution, DV shelters, employment services, and more. The platform is available on any device, requires no account to use, and is designed for reliability and speed even on low-bandwidth connections.
Complete Feature Breakdown
The following table documents every major feature available in Haven v1.2.0, released June 26, 2026.
PHASE 1 — CORE USER EXPERIENCE
Feature
Description
Needs-Based Intake Wizard
A 5-question guided intake flow ("Find My Match") on the home page asks users: what they need most, who they're finding help for (individual, children, family), whether they have pets, whether they are a veteran, and whether they need help tonight. Answers filter and sort the resource list to surface the most relevant matches. Answers persist for the session and can be skipped.
Smart Resource Search
Full-text search across resource name, city, state, description, category, and tags. Understands state names and abbreviations. Auto-detects category keywords (e.g. typing "food" surfaces food pantries and hot meal programs). Filters include category, city, state, emergency-only, walk-ins only, verified partners, and bed availability.
Save & Share Resources
Users can bookmark (heart) resources for later reference — saved items persist across page reloads via localStorage. Every resource card and detail page includes a Share menu with: native device share sheet (Web Share API), copy link to clipboard with toast confirmation, SMS share link, and Email share link.
Verified Badges
Resources confirmed as active receive a green "Verified" badge with a checkmark icon. The resource detail page shows a human-readable "Last confirmed X days ago" timestamp. The admin dashboard includes a Needs Verification tab surfacing all resources where verification is overdue by 60+ days or has never been recorded.
Holiday & Hours Alerts
Each resource can have holiday closure dates stored (e.g. July 4th, Christmas). The app automatically displays a red "Closed Today" badge when the current date matches a closure date. A yellow "Closing Soon" badge appears when the current time is within 30 minutes of the resource's closing time based on its hours string. Admins can edit holiday dates from the dashboard.
PHASE 2 — TRUST & LIVE DATA
Feature
Description
Anonymous Peer Reviews
Any user can leave a 1–5 star rating and optional written comment on any resource without creating an account. Authors are auto-tagged with an anonymous label (e.g. "Guest #4821"). Reviews display relative timestamps, a "Helpful" thumbs-up voting button, and average star ratings shown on resource cards. The admin dashboard includes a Reviews tab for moderating and deleting flagged content.
Real-Time Bed Availability
Shelter and housing resources display live bed availability reported by facility staff: green indicator for open beds (showing count), yellow for limited availability, red for full, gray for unknown. Resource detail pages show a visual progress bar. Admins and facility staff can update bed counts in real time. Availability data is prominently shown on resource cards so users know before traveling to a location.
Facility Partner Portal
Verified facility staff can log in at /facility/login with their own account (separate from admin). The facility dashboard allows staff to: edit their resource listing (name, description, hours, phone, website, address), post public announcements (e.g. "Closed Saturday for cleaning"), update bed availability, and view their weekly listing traffic count. Announcements appear as a banner on the resource's public page.
Resource Flagging
Public users can flag any resource for review — reasons include: "closed permanently," "wrong hours," "wrong phone," "wrong address," or "other." Flags queue in the admin dashboard for review and resolution. This crowdsourced accuracy layer keeps the database current without administrative overhead.
PHASE 3 — ACCESSIBILITY & REACH
Feature
Description
Offline Mode
A service worker caches the full application shell (HTML, JavaScript, CSS) and the most recent resource data locally on the user's device. When internet connectivity is lost, Haven continues to function, displaying cached resources with a "You're offline — showing cached resources" notice. The banner automatically disappears when connectivity is restored. No other resource finder in this category offers offline support.
Full Spanish Support
Every user-facing string across the home page, resource detail pages, and the domestic violence safety center is available in both English and Spanish. A language toggle (Globe icon) is visible at all times and the preference is saved to localStorage so it persists across visits. The app auto-detects browser language preference on first load.
Printable Resource Cards
Any resource detail page includes a "Print Resource Card" button. Clicking it triggers a print-optimized view that renders a clean wallet-sized card containing the resource name, address, phone number, website, hours, category badge, and Haven branding. All navigation, filters, and UI chrome are hidden during print. Social workers, case managers, and community volunteers can print these for distribution.
Public Impact Dashboard
A fully public page at /impact shows real-time platform statistics: total resources listed, total searches conducted, total resource views, a breakdown of resources by category (bar chart), the 5 most-viewed resources, and the number of distinct cities served. This transparency builds donor trust and supports grant applications. No personally identifiable information is displayed.
Domestic Violence Safety Center
A dedicated DV section of the app provides: step-by-step personal safety planning, an escape checklist, local DV shelter listings, emergency hotlines (including the National DV Hotline: 1-800-799-7233, available 24/7), free legal resource links, and a Quick Exit button that instantly closes the page. All DV browsing is kept off the device history where technically possible.
PHASE 4 — ECOSYSTEM & DISTRIBUTION
Feature
Description
Embeddable Search Widget
Any external organization — churches, libraries, school districts, county government sites, nonprofit partners — can embed Haven's resource search directly on their own website using a single iframe snippet. The widget is a clean, minimal search interface (city input + category selector + results list) designed to work cleanly at 400px wide. Haven's admin portal includes a page that generates the ready-to-paste embed code.
QR Code Access
A custom QR code linking directly to haven-app.pplx.app is available for print distribution. The code is formatted in Haven's forest green brand color with rounded styling. It can be reproduced on any printed material to give people instant access to the app without typing a URL.
Community Flyers
A print-ready US Letter PDF flyer has been designed and published featuring the Haven QR code, "Find Shelter & Food Near You" headline, step-by-step scan instructions, a summary of available resource types, a placeholder for local agency logos, and a bold "Call 211 for emergencies" reminder. The flyer is available for free download and reproduction.
ADMINISTRATIVE INFRASTRUCTURE
Feature
Description
Role-Based Admin System
Haven has a tiered permission system: Developer (full access, device-recognized), Admin (dashboard, invites, resource management), and Facility Staff (own listing only). Admin registration requires a private key — accounts cannot be created without it. The developer device is automatically recognized and granted elevated access.
Real Analytics Dashboard
Admins see live analytics including: total visits, unique sessions, search volume, most-viewed resources, category filter trends, geographic distribution, mobile vs. desktop split, and language usage. Developer visits are automatically excluded from all analytics counts so data reflects real public usage only.
Staff Invitations & Team Management
Admins can invite staff members by email. Invitees receive a secure link and set their own password. The admin dashboard displays all active staff, their roles, and last login dates. Staff accounts can be deactivated without deletion.
Resource Management
Admins can add, edit, or remove resource listings. Each listing includes: name, category, description, address, phone, website, email, hours, service area, eligibility requirements, tags, emergency flag, walk-in acceptance, bed capacity, verification status, and application settings. Bulk import is supported.
Application & Referral Tracking
When enabled for a facility, users can submit a structured help request including household size, current situation, special needs, and veteran status. Applications are stored, tracked by status (submitted, in review, accepted, declined), and can trigger email notifications to the corresponding facility.
Domestic Violence Program
Haven includes a fully integrated domestic violence safety program — one of the most sensitive and underserved areas in crisis resource platforms. Recognizing that many people experiencing domestic violence cannot safely search for help on shared devices, Haven's DV Safety Center was built with privacy as its primary design principle.
Key DV program features include:
• Step-by-step personal safety planning guidance
• Escape checklist covering documentation, finances, safe contacts, and emergency items
• Quick Exit button that instantly closes the page and clears the browser tab — one tap in an emergency
• Full listing of local DV shelters searchable by city and state
• Emergency hotlines including the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, 24/7)
• Free legal resource links covering restraining orders, custody, and housing rights
• Bilingual — all DV content is available in English and Spanish
"The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available twenty-four hours a day," Haven's in-app narration states. "You are not alone. Help is closer than you think."
