"Lessons in Owning a Business

Running a business comes with new opportunities to learn and grow. Today taught me a valuable lesson about handling online reviews and client communication.

Someone had posted a fake review using my client's information. (FAKE) When I discovered it, I immediately called the client and became defensive about the review. What I learned next was humbling - my client doesn't even use social media. Though I felt embarrassed we both laughed. He is a great client and was more mature in handling the situation. He said Leah, 'I would never do that to a small business.'

Don't react hastily - take time to gather all information before responding. Rather than jumping to defend myself, I should have first verified the review's authenticity and simply asked my client if he had written it."
